The Howard League for Penal Reform in Scotland
Membership of the Howard League is available for an annual subscription, currently £15 single or £5 for non-taxpayers. You can join by printing the form linked to this page and sending it with a cheque or (preferably) with a completed standing order to Ms Laura Irvine, The Treasurer, Howard League Scotland, 37/14 Sandport Street, Edinburgh EH6 6EP. <Form as pdf file> - <Form as Word file>. We are able to reclaim tax you have paid on your subscription and/or donations. For every £10 received we can reclaim £2.80. So if you are a tax payer please complete the form (which accompanies the membership form) and return it to us with your subscription and/or donation. You may also wish to know that if you pay higher rate tax, you can personally claim relief on the difference between the basic and higher rates on what you give us. For example, if you pay tax at 40% and give us £10 we can receive £2.80 as described above making a 'gross donation' of £12.80. You can then also claim relief for 18% of this gross donation reducing the tax you pay by £2.30. So your £7.70 will be worth £12.80 to us!
